I am an empath and an emotional person. My heart breaks for all the people who are struggling in this world.
I am utterly devastated when I see an animal barely holding on to life. I wish I could help all animals in need, but that is not possible. till, stories like the one about the 4 odd mud balls on the shore remind me that compassion can change everything.
When I hear of an abandoned animal or a soul that has been mistreated, my heart aches. Although animals don’t understand our language, their pain can be heard by anyone who has a heart. Even after they have been hurt, animals still show love and trust.
Their suffering is even more tragic because of this. I still have hope because of the kindness shown by humans. There are people in every corner of the globe who choose kindness and compassion over convenience. These people restore faith in humanity.
Many people around the world are kindhearted and willing to lend a hand.
A woman from South Carolina who is an animal lover and a kayaker noticed something strange on the shores of Lake Thurmond one day and decided to investigate.
Four Odd Mud Balls on the Shore: What is the mystery?
She had paddled many times on Lake Thurmond, but never seen anything out of the ordinary. On that fateful day, she noticed something strange on the shore.
She saw 4 odd mudballs as she approached. She was surprised when the mudballs began to move and realized that they were animals in distress.
As she got closer, it became clear that there were four puppies with missing fur and a visibly scared expression.
Their skin was red and raw, and they could see their tiny ribs through the skin. They looked like they were exhausted, as if accepting their fate. This woman didn’t walk away. She knew that she must save them with tears in her eyes and love in her soul.

The woman was moved to tears when she saw the babies without hair. She was compelled to act and stopped all she was doing.
She gently picked them up, one by one. She placed them into a plastic container and drove to the nearest rescue.
Although they were scared and shy, the puppies seemed to know that they were safe.

The staff at Final Victory Animal Rescue in South Carolina was horrified by the condition of the puppies.
Leslie Rider Osmanski is the medical manager of the rescue and foster coordinator. She described their arrival to an interviewer, saying:
All four puppies were covered with Demodex mange and very thin. The Demodex mange on their bodies was so severe that they were nearly hairless.
The staff immediately began their recovery. They affectionately named the four babies “Water’s Edge Puppies”.
Put a smile on their sad faces.
The puppies were treated with topical medication and medical baths to treat Demodex mange. This is the most common skin parasite in dogs, which occurs because of an immature immune response.
Fortunately, no pups required major surgery or suffered from any serious health problems. They only needed some love and attention from the staff. This they got in abundance, and they thrived.
The staff was optimistic about the pups’ recovery and confident that they would soon be the cutest puppies on Earth.
The pups’ names were chosen to reflect their heritage: Kayak, Canoe, and Paddle Board and Raft– pretty awesome names, right?
The shelter was unable to determine where the puppies originated or who abandoned them on the shore of Lake Thurmond.
They thought that their owner had cruelly abandoned the puppies, and they were left to suffer a terrible fate.
Their lives were dramatically changed when a woman who was compassionate woman found them and brought them to the shelter.
Kayak, Canoe, and Paddle Board recovered fully and became the loving pets that they were meant to be.
From Shore to Forever Home
It’s not uncommon for stories such as this to end with the adoption of all four “Water’s Edge Puppies”.
Each puppy has been adopted by a new loving family, and a name was given to them that best suits their personalities.
It’s bittersweet to see them separated, but heartwarming that they are all happy, healthy, and thriving in their new families.
Final Victory Animal Rescue posted the happy news on Facebook.
“Canoe lives in Pennsylvania and is now called Evie. She LOVES her human brother. Kayak, now Worthy, travelled with her family all the way to Washington State. She was able to see Mt. Rushmore during her trip. Paddle Board, now called Dobby, is enjoying the good life in Massachusetts. Raft is now known as Pudge and lives in South Carolina.
How far these puppies have come! Look at the amazing transformation of these pups!
Canoe is now Evie.

Then Kayak is now Worthy…

Paddle Board is a true Dobby, as it lives up to its new name.
Raft is now Pudge.

Their transformation from hairless, scared pups on the beach to healthy and happy dogs in their forever homes is truly inspirational.
These stories like 4 odd mud balls remind us how kindness can change the entire world, not just for humans but for all living creatures who feel hunger, pain and loneliness. One woman’s compassion saved these puppies from becoming another forgotten tragedy. She changed their fate from one of suffering to one of love, healing and second chances.
It’s okay if you can’t physically rescue an animal. It’s not necessary to do something huge in order to help. You can help by offering shelter, feeding a stray animal or reporting a danger to the rescue. Even a small act of kindness can make a difference to someone who is struggling.
Imagine what millions of compassionate hearts can accomplish if one person saves four lives in a single brave act.
Right now, somewhere, another animal waits to be discovered, to be loved. We may not be able to save all of them, but we can certainly save one. It means everything to that one.
I am so happy for these 4 odd mud balls and proud that they have received their well-deserved happy endings. Read More Dogs News
