When a maintenance worker from Wichita, Kansas, arrived at an apartment building to inspect a damaged pipe, he was not expecting anything more than a normal service call. As he entered the building, a seemingly routine job turned into an incredibly heartbreaking discovery. This led to an urgent mission:Â Save Abandoned Puppies found With Rubber Bands.
Water damage in one of the apartment was much worse than he imagined. This indicated that there was more to it than just a leaky pipe.
A Burst Pipe Leads To A Heartbreaking Discovery of Save Abandoned Puppies
It was difficult for him to breathe as a strong, foul smell rushed towards him. He scanned the entire room, stopping at a small box in the corner.
It looked like a normal kennel at first. As he got closer, two pitbull mix pups were inside. The crate was soiled with layers of urine, and there were feces leaking out.
The worker was frozen. This young puppy should be bouncing, making noise and demanding attention. They stared back with fear and swollen eyes, but instead they were silent.

He knew that he couldn’t leave them there. He was unsure of what to say and reached out to his friend, who fosters dogs for Wichita Animal Action League.
Rescuers and Animal Control Officers were on the scene within minutes.
They found two puppies that were unable to cry or whimper, just as if their voices had somehow been taken away.
A Desperate Rescue Unfolds
They rushed them to the veterinary clinic where they discovered the true extent of their suffering. Rescuers initially thought that their snouts were bound by wire.
The vet was horrified to discover what he found under the bright light of the examination table. Around each puppy’s muzzle, tiny rubber bands were wrapped – the type normally used for tying hair.
They were in pain because the bands sank so deep into their skin, their noses became swollen.

The vet said that the bands cut into each dog’s flesh for 12 to 24 hours.
The veterinarian used forceps to carefully cut through each rubber band one at a time. As soon as the rubber bands came loose, their blood flowed back up into their nostrils.
The resulting cries were so heartbreaking and sharp that all in the room had to fight back tears.
Although the puppies had been freed, their screams remained in memory. If the band had stayed on for a couple of hours, it could have caused permanent damage, including tissue loss, deformity, and even death.

The rescuers’ realization of the situation was shocking.
The dogs were caught in the narrow gap between tragedy and survival. The simple call to the plumber had quickly turned into an urgent race against time in order to save innocent lives.
Healing, Resilience, And A Brighter Future
After their ordeal, puppies are given a gentle wash to remove the dirt from their confinement. For the first time since days, they were able to rest pain-free.
Tank and Lucy, the siblings now known as Tank and Lucy, began showing signs of resilience, which is a characteristic that animal species are known to have.
Although their noses were still sore, they showed their gratitude for the kindness shown to them by waving their tails.
Their personalities were able to blossom in their foster homes. Tank was always first to discover new places. He showed himself as curious and adventurous. Lucy was calmer and more thoughtful than her brother, but she did not hesitate to put him in his place if he became too boisterous.
Rescuers were overwhelmed with relief as they watched the puppies play together, then snuggle up in bed. They could finally rest without fear. Slowly, their dark past began to give way to trust, joy and comfort.
Moments like these were worth every pain for the team that was involved in the save Abandoned Puppies Found With Rubber Bands mission.
Almost immediately, adoption applications started to pour in. Tank and Lucy soon found loving homes with families that understood just how fortunate they were to still have them.

Their survival served as a powerful reminder why Save Abandoned Puppies found With Rubber Bands is so important.
The rescuers still find it hard to forget what they went through. The rescuers could not stop thinking about what would have happened had the pipe burst never been detected. Would anyone have entered the apartment in time?
Could the puppies survive another day? In this rare, heartbreaking situation, a flooding inside the house turned out to be an unexpected blessing.
The ruptured pipes led the maintenance worker into the apartment, where he discovered the abandoned puppies. Sarah Coffman is the executive director at Wichita Animal Action League. She described the experience both as painful and humbling. She admitted hugging her dogs even tighter later that night, after realizing how close Tank and Lucy came to a tragic and different outcome.
